Mason Greenwood's Anticipated International Comeback with Jamaica

Mason Greenwood is set to make his international football return with Jamaica, marking a significant comeback in his career.

Mason Greenwood is on the verge of a significant return to international football, this time representing Jamaica. After being granted citizenship and receiving a Jamaican passport, Greenwood is now just a formal transfer away from being eligible to play for the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF). This move could see him feature in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Bermuda and Trinidad and Tobago.

Greenwood's last international appearance was for England in September 2020, but his career took a turn after being sent home for breaching Covid quarantine rules. Since then, he has rebuilt his career, moving from Manchester United to Getafe on loan, and subsequently signing permanently with Marseille in Ligue 1. Last season, he impressively finished second in the league's scoring charts with 21 goals.

Recently, Greenwood scored in Marseille's pre-season draw against Sevilla, showcasing his readiness for the upcoming season. His performance has also attracted interest from Inter Milan and Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro-League.

Jamaica, under the management of former England boss Steve McClaren, is actively recruiting UK-raised players with Jamaican heritage to strengthen their squad. Alongside Greenwood, players like Rico Henry from Brentford and Tyrese Hall from Tottenham, now on loan at Notts County, are part of this initiative. Jamaica aims to qualify for the World Cup for only the second time, having last achieved this in 1998.

This strategic move by Jamaica not only enhances their team's competitiveness but also marks a pivotal moment in Greenwood's career as he seeks to make a significant impact on the international stage.
