Alvaro Morata Slams Galatasaray Over Contract Dispute as Loan Deal Terminates Early

Alvaro Morata criticizes Galatasaray for failing to honor commitments, leading to an early termination of his loan deal. The Spanish striker is now set for a new loan with Como.

Alvaro Morata has publicly criticized Galatasaray for not honoring certain commitments, which led to the early termination of his loan deal with the Turkish club. The 32-year-old Spain captain joined Galatasaray on loan from AC Milan in February, with an option to buy for €10 million (£8.6 million). However, the contract was mutually terminated earlier this week.

Morata revealed that he had to give up part of his salary to facilitate the move, stating, "Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about my experience with the club. There were moments when the given word and the respect for fundamental values were not upheld."

Galatasaray announced that Milan would pay a termination fee of €5 million (£4.3 million), and Morata waived his receivables amounting to €651,562 (£562,982). However, Morata disputed the accuracy of the figures, claiming he had to forego other contractual rights he had earned.

Morata is now on the verge of securing another loan spell, this time with Italian Serie A side Como, managed by his former Chelsea teammate Cesc Fabregas. Reflecting on the situation, Morata emphasized the importance of principles in life and work, stating, "Failing to recognize and compensate what has been earned is, to me, unacceptable and contrary to the values of fairness and professionalism I believe in."

Morata also expressed his gratitude to Galatasaray fans for their support, saying, "I know these matters are often not spoken about openly, but I believe it is right to give the fans the real explanation of what happened."

BBC Sport has reached out to Galatasaray for comment on the matter.
