Arsenal Nears Viktor Gyokeres Signing After Prolonged Add-Ons Negotiation

Arsenal is close to finalizing the signing of Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres after extended negotiations over add-ons, aiming to bolster their attack for the upcoming season.

Arsenal are on the brink of securing a deal for Sporting Lisbon's prolific striker, Viktor Gyokeres, after prolonged discussions over the finer details of the transfer. The Gunners had initially hoped to complete the signing before their pre-season tour of Asia, which kicks off this Sunday. However, negotiations over add-on payments have delayed the finalization of the deal.

Gyokeres, who has already agreed to a five-year contract with Arsenal, has been a hot commodity in this summer's transfer window. The 27-year-old Swedish forward had an outstanding season with Sporting, netting 54 goals in 52 games. His impressive performance has made him a prime target for several top clubs across Europe.

Arsenal's pursuit of Gyokeres comes after they faced difficulties in signing Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. Manager Mikel Arteta has been keen on adding a top-tier striker to his squad, especially after Arsenal scored 17 fewer goals than champions Liverpool last season in the Premier League. Arteta has already strengthened his attacking options by signing 23-year-old England winger Noni Madueke from Chelsea last week.

Gyokeres' journey to Sporting has been marked by consistent goal-scoring. He scored 97 goals in 102 matches over two seasons in Portugal, helping Sporting secure back-to-back Primeira Liga titles. Before his move to Portugal, Gyokeres was a standout performer in the Championship with Coventry City, where he scored 43 goals in 116 appearances. His remarkable season with Coventry earned him a spot in the Championship Team of the Year for 2022-23.

Internationally, Gyokeres made his debut for Sweden in 2019 against Finland and has since played 26 games, scoring 15 goals. His addition to Arsenal's squad is expected to significantly enhance their attacking prowess as they aim to compete for the Premier League title in the upcoming season.
