Belinda Bencic's Midnight Strategy: Visualizing Victory Against Iga Swiatek in Wimbledon Semifinals

Belinda Bencic shares her unique pre-sleep visualization technique to prepare for her Wimbledon semifinal against Iga Swiatek, aiming for her first Grand Slam final.

Belinda Bencic, the Swiss tennis star, has a unique way of preparing for her matches. As she drifts off to sleep, she visualizes her game plan, a technique she believes helps her perform better on the court. This time, her focus is on her upcoming Wimbledon semifinal against the formidable Iga Swiatek.

The Challenge Ahead

Bencic, a former Olympic champion, acknowledges the difficulty of facing Swiatek, a five-time major winner. "She is a big challenge, and I'm really excited to play her. We've had some close matches. I will come up with a plan," Bencic said.

Preparation Through Visualization

Explaining her method, Bencic mentioned, "I'm not so much of a writer. For me, it's more like imagining some plays. It's important for me to do it before I go to sleep. While I'm falling asleep, I go through it unconsciously. It's something that happens naturally, and then I'm able to kind of memorize it a little bit."

Balancing Motherhood and Tennis

Bencic is not just a tennis player; she's also a mother to her 14-month-old daughter, Bella. Despite the challenges of balancing motherhood and her professional career, Bencic remains focused. "I don't adjust anything, I'm just being a mum at home. When she cries in the night, I'll wake up," she said. Bencic is aiming to become the first mother to win a Wimbledon singles title in 45 years.

A Remarkable Comeback

After a maternity leave from September 2023 to October 2024, Bencic has made a remarkable comeback. Starting the year ranked 489th, she is now projected to break back into the world's top 20 after Wimbledon. Her successes this year include winning the Abu Dhabi WTA 500 title in February.

Family Support

Bencic's family plays a crucial role in her journey. Her daughter, Bella, has been a constant presence, even joining her in the outdoor gym at Aorangi Park. "It means the world to me to be in the semifinal. It's definitely unreal, but it doesn't end here," Bencic added.

Looking Forward

As Bencic prepares for her semifinal, she remains optimistic and determined. Her unique preparation method and the support of her family have been key to her success. Tennis fans around the world will be watching closely as she takes on Swiatek in what promises to be an exciting match.
