Jacob Fearnley Overcomes Injury to Triumph Over Cobolli at Eastbourne

Jacob Fearnley secures a dominant win over Flavio Cobolli at Eastbourne, despite a painful fall, showcasing his resilience on grass courts.

Jacob Fearnley demonstrated remarkable resilience and skill as he overcame a painful fall to secure a commanding victory over Flavio Cobolli at the Eastbourne International. The British number two, ranked 51st in the world, cruised through the first round with a 6-2, 6-2 win in just over an hour.

Despite a nasty slip during the second set, Fearnley managed to maintain his composure and finish the match strongly. 'Not too sure, it was just adrenaline getting me over the line,' Fearnley remarked post-match. 'I feel a bit of pain, but I'm sure it's nothing - just a little tweak.'

Fearnley's performance was marked by his ability to break Cobolli's serve four times and produce 21 winners, compared to Cobolli's seven. The Italian, ranked 24th, struggled with 29 unforced errors and appeared visibly disconsolate throughout the match.

This victory adds to Fearnley's impressive grass-court form, following his recent quarter-final appearance at Queen's Club. He now faces Marcos Giron in the last 16, aiming to continue his strong run.

In other matches, Billy Harris caused an upset by defeating fellow Briton Cameron Norrie 6-4, 6-4. Harris, ranked 142nd, showcased his potential with a solid performance, breaking Norrie's serve twice in the first set and once in the second. Harris will next play Italian qualifier Mattia Bellucci.

Additionally, Bernard Tomic claimed his first ATP win in four years, defeating Rinky Hijikata 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 at the Mallorca Open. Tomic, once ranked 17th, is now aiming to climb back into the top 100.
