Scotland's Paul Craig has found himself at the center of controversy following his recent UFC light-heavyweight bout against Rodolfo Bellato in Atlanta. The fight, which ended in a no-contest, has sparked widespread debate among MMA fans and analysts.

Craig admitted to executing an illegal move during the fight. "I thought he was standing up, so I threw my axe kick, looking to land a heavy upkick to his face," Craig explained. However, Bellato was actually a grounded opponent at the time, making the move illegal under UFC rules. This led to the fight being ruled a no-contest.

Fan Reactions and Craig's Response

Many fans accused Bellato of "flopping" to the canvas, suggesting he exaggerated the impact of the kick. Craig, however, urged fans not to persecute Bellato. "I don't want to think any fighter is looking for an easy way out in this sport," Craig said. "We're all fighters, we're all in the UFC - the pinnacle of our careers - and we're looking to put on performances."

Craig, who was hoping to end a three-loss streak, expressed disappointment but also optimism. "A no-contest was at least not as bad as another defeat," he noted. He is hopeful for a rematch with Bellato but is also open to facing any light-heavyweight the UFC offers.

Looking Ahead

Craig believes he is in the best shape of his career and is eager to make a mark in the light-heavyweight division. "I was wanting to make a stamp in that division and say, hey, I am back," he said. Craig even mentioned the possibility of repeating his 2018 win over current champion Magomed Ankalaev if given the chance.
