Jens Berthel Askou's Vision: Transforming Motherwell with Aggressive Football

New Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou emphasizes an aggressive and attacking style of play, aiming to transform the team's performance in the Scottish Premiership.

Jens Berthel Askou's Vision for Motherwell

Newly appointed Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou is set to bring a fresh and dynamic approach to the team. The 42-year-old Danish coach, who previously managed IFK Gothenburg, has replaced Michael Wimmer and is already making waves with his philosophy of aggressive and attacking football.

A New Era at Fir Park

Askou's first games in charge will be in next month's League Cup first-round group stage, where Motherwell will face Clyde, Peterhead, Stenhousemuir, and Greenock Morton. His first Scottish Premiership fixtures are scheduled for early August.

Aggressive and Attacking Football

'I'm here to make [the players'] dreams come true,' said Askou. 'I have to push them every day and teach them that they can actually do more than they think they can do. I think that's my most important job.'

Askou's managing style is rooted in aggression and initiative. 'I believe in being aggressive, I believe in attacking. We attack the opponent if we have the ball or if we don't have the ball,' he explained. 'I don't like passive football. I believe in taking the initiative and I want my players to express themselves on the pitch, to show some joy, some passion and respect for the game.'

Drawing from Past Experiences

Askou cited his time as a player with Norwich City from 2009-11 as a significant influence on his coaching philosophy. 'The passion about football from the supporters, the passion also from the players, I really thrived on that because I am also very passionate about football and winning,' he said.

He hopes to bring that same energy and passion to Motherwell. 'I really hope to experience that again as a manager and a coach. That's something I work on, being good enough to go there and see what I can do with a British team.'

Looking Ahead

With a clear vision and a hunger for success, Askou is determined to lead Motherwell to new heights in the Scottish Premiership. His emphasis on aggressive, attacking football promises to make Motherwell a team to watch in the upcoming season.
