Mbappe Reflects on PSG's Champions League Triumph and His Real Madrid Journey

Kylian Mbopens up about PSG's historic Champions League win and his transition to Real Madrid, sharing insights on his career and future aspirations.

Kylian Mbappe, the French football sensation, recently shared his thoughts on Paris Saint-Germain's (PSG) monumental Champions League victory, just under a year after his high-profile move to Real Madrid. Despite leaving PSG as their all-time leading scorer, Mbappe had never clinched the Champions League title during his tenure with the French club. PSG's emphatic 5-0 win over Inter Milan on May 31, 2025, marked their first-ever Champions League triumph.

Mbappe, who scored 256 goals for PSG, expressed no bitterness over the club's success without him. "I didn't leave too soon; my story with PSG was over. I am not bitter; I had reached the end of the road," he stated during a news conference ahead of France's Nations League third-place match against Germany. He added, "I tried everything, and it was destiny that meant it had to happen without me. PSG winning the Champions League without me doesn't affect me. I was happy - I think they deserved it."

The 26-year-old forward reflected on his time at PSG, acknowledging the club's struggles and his own near-misses in the Champions League. "They've had so many years where they struggled. I've been there too; I've played in every Champions League stage in Paris except for the victory," Mbappe remarked. He praised PSG's performance in the final, stating, "They're the best team in Europe. I don't remember seeing a team win 5-0 in a major final."

Mbappe's closest brush with Champions League glory at PSG was a runners-up finish in the 2020 final against Bayern Munich. Since joining Real Madrid on a free transfer in July 2024, Mbappe has yet to replicate his domestic success on the European stage. Real Madrid were eliminated by Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the last season's Champions League, ending their campaign without a trophy for the first time in four years. Despite this, Mbappe enjoyed individual success, winning the European Golden Shoe after scoring 31 goals in La Liga.

As Mbappe continues his journey with Real Madrid, his reflections on PSG's triumph and his own career path offer a fascinating glimpse into the mindset of one of football's brightest stars. His focus remains on achieving new heights with his current club, while acknowledging the significant chapter he closed at PSG.
