Tragic Loss: Former Arsenal Youth Striker Billy Vigar Dies Following Match Injury
Former Arsenal youth striker Billy Vigar tragically passed away after sustaining a severe brain injury during a match, leaving the football community in mourning.

The football world is in mourning following the tragic death of former Arsenal youth striker Billy Vigar. The 21-year-old, who was born in Worthing, sustained a significant brain injury during a game at Wingate and Finchley in the Isthmian League Premier Division last Saturday. It is believed that the injury occurred when Vigar collided with a concrete wall, although the club has not confirmed this.
Vigar's family released a statement on Thursday, expressing their devastation: "After sustaining a significant brain injury last Saturday, Billy Vigar was put into an induced coma. On Tuesday, he needed an operation to aid any chances of recovery. Although this helped, the injury proved too much for him and he passed away on Thursday morning."
Vigar was a graduate of the Arsenal academy, having joined at the age of 14 after being scouted at his hometown club Hove Rivervale FC. He excelled as a striker, scoring 17 goals in his debut season. Despite a serious hamstring injury during his first season as a scholar, Vigar made a strong comeback, scoring four goals in 18 under-18 appearances and signing professional terms with Arsenal at the end of the 2021-22 season.
Arsenal released a heartfelt statement: "Billy will always be remembered for his love of the game, pride at representing our football club, and a character beloved by team-mates and coaches alike. Our deepest condolences go out to the Vigar family and his many friends at this extremely difficult time."
Vigar also had spells at Derby County, Hastings United, and Eastbourne Borough. Derby County expressed their sadness: "All at Derby County are deeply saddened by the passing of Billy Vigar. The thoughts of everyone at the club are with his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time."
Hastings United also paid tribute: "All of us at Hastings United are devastated to learn of the passing of Billy Vigar. We will always remember Billy's time at Hastings United with fondness. Our thoughts are with Billy's family and friends at this time."
The FA also extended their condolences: "We send our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, loved ones, and everyone at Chichester City FC at this incredibly difficult time."
Chichester City FC confirmed that their match against Lewes on Saturday was postponed and would be rescheduled at a later date. The football community continues to rally around Vigar's family and friends during this tragic time.
