Djokovic Aims for First Clay Victory at Geneva Open 2025

Novak Djokovic returns to the Geneva Open, seeking his first clay-court win of the season before the French Open.

Novak Djokovic is set to make his second consecutive appearance at the Geneva Open as he aims to secure his first victory on clay this season. The tournament, scheduled from May 17 to 24, serves as a crucial warm-up event for players heading to the French Open in Paris.

Geneva organizers confirmed Djokovic's participation on Friday, highlighting the significance of this event for the Serbian star. Currently ranked sixth in the world, Djokovic is chasing his 100th singles title on the tour. However, his clay-court season has been challenging, with early exits at both the Monte Carlo Masters and the Madrid Open, leaving him with an 0-2 record on European clay this year.

The Geneva Open lineup is packed with top-tier talent, including Taylor Fritz, ranked fourth globally, and Casper Ruud, the defending champion who has dominated the tournament in recent years, winning three of the last four editions. Ruud’s prowess on clay makes him a formidable opponent for Djokovic, who will be looking to avenge last year’s semifinal defeat to Tomas Machac.

Djokovic’s journey in Geneva last year ended in the semifinals, but he bounced back with a strong performance at the French Open, advancing through four rounds before withdrawing due to a knee injury ahead of a quarterfinal clash with Ruud. This year, Djokovic could also celebrate his 38th birthday in Geneva, as he turns another year older on May 22.

As the tennis world eagerly anticipates the French Open, all eyes will be on Djokovic to see if he can regain his form on clay and make a statement in Geneva. The tournament promises thrilling matches and intense competition, setting the stage for an exciting clay-court season.
